Literacy, Learning, and Leadership

This year, interns from the University of Arizona College of Education had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Literacy, Learning, and Leadership with Make Way for Books. L3 (Literacy, Learning, and Leadership) is an interdisciplinary major through the College of Education which gives students the opportunity to learn about how they can work in a variety of educational fields (such as nonprofits) outside of the traditional school context.

Three creative and motivated interns from the L3 program gained experience in a variety of educational settings within Make Way for Books’ programs. Meagan and Jessica shared interactive storytimes with children at events throughout the community as well as in preschools in Tucson. Megan and Jessica were also active in our Raising A Reader family-engagement program based at Tucson Unified School District elementary schools. Our third intern Riley facilitated the Make Way for Books Book M.A.G.I.C. program with families at Teenage Parent High School and was active in our family literacy programming throughout the community.

Check out this video which describes the great work L3 interns are doing in our community and features Make Way for Books intern Riley talking about her experience:

We congratulate Riley and Meagan on their upcoming graduations from the University of Arizona and we wish our interns all the best!
