Since 1998, Make Way for Books has been dedicated to advancing early literacy and ensuring a bright future for Arizona’s children. Now, we begin writing what’s next. A new chapter for Make Way for Books. A sustainable vision for early literacy. And an even greater commitment to amplifying the efforts of parents, caregivers, and early childhood educators — a child’s first and most important teachers — with the tools and strategies to turn everyday moments into opportunities to learn, connect, and grow.
Make Way for…
Our new CEO, Marc Acuña!
Marc Acuña has served as our CEO since April 2026, bringing a deep commitment to educational equity and community-driven impact. Marc is a lifelong educator whose leadership is marked by vision, compassion, and an unwavering belief that education is the foundation for stronger communities. Under his direction, Make Way for Books will continue to expand on the foundation we’ve built as a champion in early childhood literacy.
New program names!
We are excited to share updated identities for two of our signature early literacy programs! Now known as the Birth to Five Literacy Journey (previously Story School) and the Educator Literacy Collaborative (formerly The Story Project), these are at the heart of our work toward ensuring every child has the opportunity to read and succeed. Our team remains focused on supporting parents, caregivers, and educators across Arizona as they equip their children with essential foundational literacy skills during their critical early years from birth through age five.
A fresh new look!
Our branding has an exciting new look, featuring a modern logo and expanding our color palette with colors that evoke our desert home like Cholla Green, Canyon Gold, and Sunset Orange. This vibrant new design reflects our ongoing commitment to dynamic, high-quality early learning experiences.
Writing What’s Next Together
As we look ahead, Make Way for Books remains deeply committed to advancing early literacy. To build on our impact, we have refreshed our mission, by supporting parents, caregivers, and educators on their journey to becoming their children’s first and best teachers. We envision a future where every child has the opportunity to read and succeed. For nearly three decades, we have helped children, families, and educators discover the joy, possibility, and power that comes from reading together.
But the story doesn’t end here.
