From Intern to Librarian to Longtime Donor
Mary Sanchez, a librarian for the Pima County Public Library, is a big supporter of MAKE WAY FOR BOOKS. Mary worked at MWFB as a summer intern shortly after graduating from library school more than 10 years ago. The experience, she says, taught her a lot about early literacy and the importance of reading aloud to young children.
“I found it amazing how such a simple act such as reading to a child could reap such big rewards,” she said.
In her role as librarian, she often visits kindergarten and first-grade classrooms and hears from teachers about how they can easily identify the children who have been read to at home from an early age. These are the kids, she says, that have larger vocabularies, can better understand and follow directions, know how to use a book and follow what is happening in the story. Most importantly, these were the kids that have a jumpstart on future school success.
“That’s why I’m so happy to be associated with MAKE WAY FOR BOOKS and provide whatever support I can so they can purchase more books, provide more teacher trainings and reach out to even more children at preschools and childcare centers.”

| Like many MWFB supporters, Mary Sanchez does far more than donate. Here she takes center stage at a Story Town performance. |
