Community-Based Literacy

Make Way for Books Community-Based Literacy programs serve families in community in locations they already frequent, helping to make books and programming available for the many children and families who do not have access to preschool or childcare.

Cover to Cover (C2C)

Cover to Cover is an "early literacy school without walls" that travels via book bus to meet families in places they already visit throughout their day. The program transforms these locations—such as social service agencies, laundromats, grocery stores, parks, food banks, etc.—into early literacy classrooms where children experience the joy of books while developing pre-reading skills. Parents learn how they can make reading a fun and meaningful part of their children's lives, everyday, everywhere.

Book Fiestas

We offer Book Fiestas at community events throughout Tucson and southern Arizona. We hold an interactive story performance and hand out free books to attending children. Book Fiestas promote a culture of literacy in the community and help children and families get excited about books and reading.

The Blue Book House Project

The Blue Book House Project places new and gently-used books in waiting rooms of social service agencies, medical clinics, and other community locations throughout southern Arizona. Families are invited to enjoy books while waiting for services and to take books to keep. Blue Book House books are collected from donations and book drives conducted by individuals, local schools, and community organizations.
